ABOUT ME
Hi there and welcome to my website! I am so happy you are here. My name is Kari Mueller and I am the owner and all around cake LOVER of Cakealicious - Cakes & Desserts.
I am a wife of 25 years and a mom of 2 great (adult) kids. My oldest son is 26 and my daughter is 21. YIKES!! I have done it all in my short lifetime. I worked in retail, as a hostess and server in many different restaurants. I have been a Tupperware manager, office manager, graphic artist and daycare provider. All of these experiences have brought me to where I am now. I currently work full-time as a bakery manager at a local, very popular, cafe/restaurant. I love my job!! I have learned so much and we are doing so many new and exciting things since I started there 5 years ago.
I am now starting to focus on a dream I have had for a long time. Starting my own business! Here is a little history of my cake dream and how all this crazy cake stuff started.
In the summer of 2009 my world, as I knew it, was about to take a very drastic turn. I was NOT prepared to have my mom tell me she had lung cancer. I was devastated! Being me, I pushed myself aside and made sure I was there for her. I started cleaning her house once a week and doing anything else I could to help her or my step dad get through their days a little easier. I talked to her almost everyday before the cancer and now it was everyday! We were all determined to help her beat cancer, but I think I knew, deep down, that God had other plans for her. In October of 2010, she lost her battle and was called Home. I didn't know it then, and why would I, but I was just starting on a journey that would lead me to where I am today.
In September of 2010, just 1 month before I lost my mom, I was at a Michael's craft store in my city and I saw there cake decorating classes. I had always wanted to take a cake decorating class and I felt I needed a distraction at that time. Something to help me let go and focus on me for just a couple hours a week. So I signed up!! I told my mom about it and she was so excited for me. She told me she had actually taken the same class several years before me and she still had all of her supplies that I could have if I wanted.
So with her blessing, I started my cake journey. What started out as a distraction to my stress at the time has turned into something so wonderful and I thank God for sending me down this path and for showing me my talent for all things cake. So then, I started doing cakes and cupcakes for people here and there. Then I got a job at a local grocery store, followed by a small local bakery and finally as a bakery manager for a great company. As I was starting to fall in love with all things cake, we found out that my dad had brain cancer in April of 2011. Once again, my world is changed forever! For the next year, my focus changed to my dad and all his and my sisters needs. I feel blessed that he got the chance to see some of my early cake work. In April of 2012, I lost my dad. Two of the most important people in my life are now gone, only 1 1/2 years apart. I needed to create more than ever! Fast forward to 2017, and I now feel that this is the right time to chase my dream! I know my mom and dad are watching me and are very proud. I am sure if there was a way they could tell people about my cake business, I know they ARE doing it!
